Ours is an unending war - top fans

ORLANDO Pirates' staunch supporter Joy "Mama Joy" Chauke took to using a taxi to work this week to spread the word about tomorrow's Soweto derby.

Mama Joy, who is known for her trademark white and red dot decorations on her face, is all set for the long trip to Durban tonight, where Pirates take on arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the MTN8 Cup .

"I am not really bothered by the costs ... as long as I will be there. For me that's all that matters," she said.

On the other hand, Chiefs' popular fan Masilo Machaka said he has "been breathing, talking and even dreaming about the derby all week".

He too will be hopping into a hired taxi with other Amakhosi fans to Durban tonight.

The two supporters were unanimous that with the derby, it's all about pride, fun and, most importantly, to prove who is the best between the two Soweto giants. "Ours is an unending war, and that's what makes it more exciting," he said.

"If you could see my bag, it's so big you would think I'm not coming back," said Machaka.

Some of the crucial items inside the bag are his four Kaizer Chiefs jerseys and a vuvuzela.

Unlike Machaka who will be accommodated by other Chiefs fans in Durban, Chauke has to book her accommodation.

What is also most exciting about the trip for the pair is the stops at garages. "When we stop at garages ... we sing and blow our vuvuzelas, it becomes a very big party even before we get to our destination," Machaka said.

Chauke was noncommittal about the scoreline but said "men will be separated from boys". Machaka said Chiefs will win by a 2-0 margin.
