The 'spy tapes' have been handed over

The controversial recordings, known as the 'spy tapes', have been handed over to Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Helen Zille.

The recordings which are said to contain information that led to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) dropping the 783 corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma in 2009 are now in the hands of Helen Zille.

The tapes are believed to contain evidence of a political conspiracy against President Zuma that influenced the case and therefore the NPA had to drop the charges.

Zille told the DA supporters outside the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that the release of the tapes is “only the end of a beginning” as they will review the contents of the tapes and see if the charges against President Zuma could be reinstated.

“We hope that Zuma, who has always asked for his day in court, will come to court and stop wasting millions and millions of taxpayers money, delaying the inevitable” said Zille.
