The challenge started in the US, with the aim of raising funds for people suffering with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis —also referred to as motor neurone disease, and, in the United States, Lou Gehrig's disease). South Africans are now involved in the challenge. The Springboks, Joost van der Westhuizen and other rugby teams took on the the icebucket challenge.

The Prime Minister of Lesotho Thomas Thabane has defended his decision to issue members of the Gupta family with diplomatic passports and rejected opposition demands to withdraw them. READ MORE

James Foley, a US journalist was allegedly beheaded by Islamic extremists. A YouTube video went viral last week showing James Foley on his knees with an Islamic man named 'John' standing behind him, ready to behead the journalist. The screen went black at the moment of 'beheading' which has led to some doubting that such took place. Some believe that this actually happened. James Foley's parent who had watched the video says that they are ready to forgive the man who killed their son. The authenticity of the video is being investigated by the US - and the search for 'John' continues. READ MORE
