Thirteen people were injured when they jumped of a train which caught fire between Soetendal and Hebron stations near Wellington, Western Cape emergency services said on Monday.
Spokesman Robert Daniels said the train caught fire after an apparent electrical explosion which caused the panicked passengers to jump off around 7pm on Sunday.
The group was taken to a nearby hospital and clinic for further treatment.
