A two-week-old baby was found dumped outside a house in Dlamini, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

"A woman passing by noticed the baby wrapped in a cloth and placed at a gate outside the house. The baby girl was alive. There was no one in the house, so she took the baby to the police," said spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

A case of child neglect was being investigated. No arrests have been made.
