Majoro ready to board Pirates ship

TWISTS AND TURNS: Kaizer Chiefs forward Lehlohonolo Majoro
TWISTS AND TURNS: Kaizer Chiefs forward Lehlohonolo Majoro

THE Lehlohonolo Majoro soapie took another turn yesterday when his agent, Tim Sukazi, insisted the player would be joining Orlando Pirates despite repeated denials by the club that he had signed a pre-contract with them.

Sukazi has been denying any link between Majoro and the Buccaneers since Sowetan broke the story as early as December 18.

Majoro, who is still contracted to Kaizer Chiefs, had been instructed to train with their development team after he refused to go to SuperSport United in a swap deal with George Maluleka going to Naturena.

It is very rare for Pirates and Chiefs to directly trade players.

Amakhosi and United had to do a separate deal for Maluleka after Majoro made it clear he wanted to play for Pirates - the team he supported from childhood.

Chiefs security personnel were told not to allow him entry to the club's premises last week.

Majoro's contract with Chiefs expires at the end of the season but it looks like the two clubs might reach an agreement in the next few days for his transfer.

Yesterday Sukazi issued a statement claiming that the player could move to Parktown during the current transfer window.

"Majoro will be joining Orlando Pirates football club, most likely in this transfer window, provided Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates reach agreement regarding his immediate release.

"Otherwise, he is well set to join the Orlando club upon the expiry of his current contract," said Sukazi, who refused media interviews on matter until today.

On Wednesday, Chiefs general manager Bobby Motaung, who could not be reached for comment yesterday, told Sowetan that Ajax Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces were interested in signing Majoro.

Representatives of Pirates, including the media and communications officials, as well as Majoro, could not be reached at the time of going to press.
