Suspected rapist stoned to death in Cape Town

By Sapa | Dec 31, 2013 | COMMENTS [ 11 ]

A man who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint was stoned to death in the Crossroads informal settlement in Cape Town, The Star reported on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old was dragged from a shebeen, near the victim's house, beaten with sjamboks, and stoned to death around 11am on Sunday.

Two men with knives apparently confronted the girl and her friend while they were on their way to visit another friend on Saturday afternoon, the victim's aunt told the paper. They were forced into a shack and raped.

"My niece told me the suspect and his accomplice threatened to kill them if they told anyone about the incidents," the aunt was quoted as saying.

A local resident told the newspaper people were fed up with the man.

"During the day before he raped the girl, he robbed people of their phones. He was always carrying a knife with him.

"We don't regret his killing because if we do not react to these incidents, no one would," the resident, who did not want to be named, said.

The raped teenager was taken away from the area after her family apparently received death threats from the dead man's friends.

Police spokesman Lt-Col Andre Traut said no arrests had yet been made for the murder.

@Blackstarliner

Its fantastic when people and communities see the error in their ways and turn it around, this requires a higher lever of thinking and conciousness and is worthy of admiration.

We are not raised by the ANC nor do we have police personnel assigned to individual SAcans or families. The sooner we rid of the “this is not my business mentality” within our communities, the better. However, killing criminals through mob justice is also not a good course because you only realize this when a wrong person is caught and killed.

Some of these responsibilities rest with the communities themselves. Let’s not point at government for things they are not responsible for. We even kill our Elders claiming they are witches.

Let’s start by killing these criminals in our families first before we expect the public to do the same.

Ask Stephen of the pain of being stoned, he saw heavens opened. I wonder what did you see brother. It shows that people are fed up of such behaviour. Minus one trouble.
