Cops looking for husband of murdered woman

SASOLBURG police are appealing to the husband of a woman who was brutally murdered in their house to contact them.

Police have refused to release the identity of the man as relatives of the deceased have not been notified about her death.

The woman, aged 39, was found murdered on Sunday morning in Deneysville by neighbours.

"Our members were called to the scene by neighbours who had made the shocking discovery," Constable Peter Kareli said.

He said neighbours went to the house and found the woman "sleeping" and her body was covered with a blanket. Her husband was not around and it is not known where he was.

"Neighbours thought she was asleep. They were shocked when they lifted the blanket and saw gaping wounds on her head and her body was covered with blood. She had been severely injured in her head," Kareli said.

Kareli said the murder weapon has not been found.

"We can't release both their names at the moment. We need him to come forward and help us with our investigations regarding his wife's murder."

In a separate incident, an Oranjeville woman is expected to appear today in the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court for abandoning her three-week-old baby.

The 23-year-old woman was arrested on Monday after police were alerted by members of the community.
