Girl, 3, raped in North West

According to the information received, the mother of the minor alleged that she left the victim at her neighbour's house and went to work.

A three-year-old girl has been raped at Umzomhle in Orkney, North West police said on Monday.

Sergeant Kelebogile Moiloa said the girl was raped in February, but a case was only opened on Sunday.

"According to the information received, the mother of the minor alleged that she left the victim at her neighbour's house and went to work. It is also alleged that the child was raped on Thursday, February 21."

When the mother arrived home the girl told her that her genitals were painful.

"The mother then bathed the victim and she noticed a white substance and Vaseline on the private parts of the victim."

She took the child to a local clinic, but left before the nurses could attend to them because there were many people in the queue.

"The case was only reported yesterday [Sunday] and the police took the child to the clinic for medical examination, and they are still waiting for the results."

No arrest had been made. Social workers would investigate and determine if the 28-year-old mother should be charged with child neglect.
