How nurse 'raped' a patient

By Ntwaagae Seleka Free State Correspondent | Feb 05, 2013 | COMMENTS [ 85 ]

A NURSING sister at a Bloemfontein hospital testified in the Bloemfontein High Court about how information on a terminally ill cancer patient who was allegedly raped by a male nurse had come to her attention.

Elizma Oosthuizen told the court that on October 15 2011 she was on duty at the National Hospital when the alleged rape victim, aged 50, told her that she had been raped.

"She didn't tell me when it took place, and how. The victim alleged that a female nurse had pinned her down while a male nurse raped her."

Oosthuizen said patients who were terminally ill were kept in separate wards alone. Lights were switched off at 10pm and only the nurses' station and wards were lit.

Male nurse Kodisang Michael Moema has pleaded not guilty to two charges of rape. It is alleged that between October 14 and 16 Moema raped the woman in her hospital bed.

It is alleged that she was penetrated in her vagina and anus.

The woman had reported the incident to her husband, who then alerted the police, after the hospital personnel had failed to report the matter to the authorities.

The woman was later moved to the nearby Medi-Clinic, where she died on November 26 2011.

The trial continues.

I think Male nurses should not practice in places where patients dont have power. He deserves this.

I cannot believe some of the comments here, as if the victim asked for it????? A female nurse held her down - sounds suspect????? This is EXCATLY why sexual assault/rapes against woman and children flourish, because of antiquated, uneducated people who still believe that the woman asked for it.

So whats the use of this trial then, the raped women is dead, and no longer there, its now all speculation

If that was your mother or relative, I am sure in your heartlessness you wouldn't give a f**k, because she'd be dead. Sometimes I think you write these things to just provoke useless opinion

It shows we have a country full of losers and izishimane zoqobo. rapes of babies, young children, magogos and now terminally ill patients. When I read stories like these, I ask myself what did I fight apartheid for?? Most of these rapists never knew what apartheid was like, the Blackberry useless Generation, they would never have made it during PW Botha's times, f**king bunch of no-hopers

I think the investigation should do a background check on the financials of this couple, it could happen that hubby did not have money to support the madam so they planned this scheme. Was the madam examined after the alleged rapes?

OR maybe the poor lady was hallucinating, vele some medication for chronic illnesses can cause that, especially when you are terminally ill you can talk all the rubbish that comes to your mind at the time...

I say not guilty until proven otherwise and in that case noma bangamnquma umshini wakhe lo-nurse.

It is sad that these terminally ill patients sometimes lie against the nurses taking care of them. This happened to a N!gerian nurse who used to work in St Francis hospital,Tulsa in the US.

Here is the first story of when he was arrested;

And here is the second story of when he was acquitted of r@pe.

When the first story broke ,many media houses around the world broke the story and even some forums referred to him as the "n!gger" nurse. This was a man who dedicated his life to helping people but his life and career was destroyed in an instant by a lie.

When he was acquitted of rape only a handful of media houses carried the story but it was too late. He has lost everything he worked all his life to achieve just because one wicked woman decided it was okay for her to lie.

Today Olayinka Osifeso is jobless and helpless, he lives on handouts from close friends. All this because he was a black nurse in a western country influenced by "quick to judge" media houses.

This woman in this story is probably lying seeing as she is claiming that a female nurse held her down. That just sounds like an out right lie. I feel pity for these African males who work in all these hospitals ,maybe they should get a different job because this one is not worth the trouble.

I remember the story and also remembered thinking, what if that was me??!! and I shuddered!! Most people in SA (especially) think that being African and moving to a foreign, and to a certain extent, still racist country, is a bed of roses. Africans in Western countries have to work twice as hard to prove their worth. You may be right, but as you know in SA, there is too many cases of rape for comfort, one can be forgiven in justification of this (female) nurse making these vile accusations. The only victim in this case is the Truth, because the rape victim is now dead. The nurse who made this disclosure should have obtained a signed statement and witnesses (to the affidavit) before the patient passed on. We may never know the truth

ouch...hehehe. but he does deserve this. I mean what kind of beast is this really? In fact what type of person rapes another?

Can I ask a question which is a little controversial? Why does it always seem easier for a black SA male to rape than any other race? Or is this a kak question?
