In February this year, Hlubi allegedly shot Lieutenant Thabiso Ernest Seithati, 28, and Gunner Zakhe Nkanyiso Khumalo, 26, while driving from the Fouriesburg Military Base to the Kromdraai temporary base in a military vehicle.

The murder trial of a 24-year-old soldier will begin in Bethlehem later this week, Free State police said on Monday.

Sergeant Majang Skalkie said Mpumelelo Hlubi appeared in the Bethlehem Circuit Court on two murder counts, but the matter was postponed.

The trial would start now on Friday, 18 October, in Bethlehem.

Hlubi apparently dumped their bodies beside the Kromdraai Farm gravel road.

An R4 rifle and a cellphone were allegedly taken from the two men.

Police said at the time the military vehicle was found abandoned on the Lesoba road.

A cellphone was found a few metres from the vehicle. A rifle was also recovered.
