Metro cop arrested by mistake

An off-duty metro police officer, who was arrested in Lenasia after he was mistaken for a criminal, has been released, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the officer was arrested on Wednesday while he was on his way home in his silver-grey BMW after an armed robbery.

"Four armed men also in a silver-grey BMW robbed a woman of R16,000 as she left her business premises," he said.

"It was established that the off-duty officer was on his way home to Leanasia south and that his car looks similar to the BMW of the robbers."

Minnaar said the officer was released on Wednesday.

No further arrests had been made and police were looking for the four men.
