Licence renewal now easy

KWAZULU-NATAL motorists can now renew their motor licences at any of the province's 82 Registered Authorities centres nearer to them, MEC for transport Willies Mchunu has announced.

"It simply means that if you bought and registered your vehicle in Durban, but have moved to another town, you can renew your motor licence at your new residential city," he said.

Mchunu said the new approach and adjustments in renewing licences would ease the burden on motorists and reduce costs involved.

Before motorists were compelled to renew their licences at the initial registering authority or at selected post offices that were located within their jurisdiction, forcing them to travel long hours and in some instances miss renewal dates.

"With these new adjustments we hope to drastically reduce and ultimately eliminate the number of unlicensed vehicles that roam our public roads," Mchunu said.

There are 82 registered authorities in KwaZulu-Natal comprising of 41 municipal offices, 34 Post Offices and seven provincial offices who perform motor registration and licensing functions.

"There's now no excuse for not renewing your licence and our officers will be very strict on unlicensed vehicles," warned Mchunu.
