A man who went missing after swimming at Inanda Dam in KwaZulu-Natal is believed to be an MK veterans leader, the Mercury reports.

Regional chairman of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association, Mduduzi Mdletshe, is presumed to have drowned on Sunday after spending time on a boat and swimming.

MK provincial chairman Themba Mavundla who was also on the boat said a group of men held a meeting and then went to swim.

He said some of the men took a break from swimming and Mdletshe continued. He was later heard screaming for help as he struggled to keep afloat.

The men jumped into the water to help him but it was too late.

“He just vanished. We called police because we could not find him. I think we made a mistake by not wearing our life jackets,” Mavundla was quoted as saying in the Mercury.

According to the paper, Mdletshe made headlines last year when he lay on the road leading to President Jacob Zuma’s home when DA leader Helen Zille attempted to inspect it.
