Buthelezi nominates Gauntlett for top court post

IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi has nominated Jeremy Gauntlett, SC, as a judge in the Constitutional Court.

“It gives me great pleasure to nominate advocate Jeremy Gauntlett... for appointment... to the Constitutional Court,” the Inkatha Freedom Party leader said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Advocate Gauntlett has one of the best legal minds in South African history.”

Earlier this month, Gauntlett was snubbed by the Judicial Service Commission for a position on the bench. It questioned whether he had the requisite “humility and the appropriate temperament”.

Buthelezi said Gauntlett’s patriotism was beyond doubt.

“I have known him for 40 years and can personally vouch for it.”

Buthelezi said he had an exemplary conduct in court and had served many appointments for over 35 years.

“I am confident that the interests of the republic will be best served by having advocate Gauntlett serve in our highest court.”

Good for you, Gatsha.... Most of the time I find you a bit of a jerk, but in this I support you. Gauntlett is imminently better qualified than most and has a record second to none. His omission by the JSC was farcical.

Bravo Buthelezi.

Malemaforpresident - you are showing an absolute lack of any understanding. The JSC has scandalously tried to find a reason to snub him while everyone knows that the real problem is that the ANC is scared of his independent, and brilliant mind. He is not arrogant, but he does not suffer fools, jus tlike the best judges in the world.

Tata, Gatsha, tata. Of course, Vorster would have given you a platform at the flip of a finger. That the young Jeremy Gauntlett organised the moment for you is a non issue. Go home, Gatsha, you are old. Inkathazo.
