When they decide to go to clinics that are free of charge, then the death rate will be zero rather than breaking previous records.

It looks like it is safer to do it in Limpopo than in EC .Thanks GOD i don't have to go to the mountain to become a man.

Batho ba EC ba palelwa ke koma. Each time there are initiations, schools from EC are always on the news with death cases. If it leads to these then they must stop them from doin it or else refer their iniates to schools in Limpopo.

I still mantain my point that people must go and do this thing in the hospital. We understand that it is a culture, but when people are dying it is not fun anymore.

I must be proud of my Manhood coz i passed thru this passage to be this man i am today, the only problem with the EC is the phondoland ( the people who ran down from zululand during Shakas madness), Mpondo's were not doing this b4 so they are not well trained and goverment failed to transport them to othe areas where it is properly done.

As for Limpompo, there is no circumsision there only young boys taken to the mountain to sing all day & night so who can die from singing. (all of these people - sothos & hlubis included).

As for zulus they must relax & shut up or simply scratch their poloneck ( ijwabi- sies ababafazi bakazuma banyamezele u rhwexwa lijwabi).

I too a proud Xhosa men. the culture is not about being circumcised but the teachings one receives at the initiation schoolS on how to behave as a men. It is then up to the individual to decide whether he will live up to it or not. let us not blame and look down on our cultures and yes the problem is at Pondo land. The guys there did not practise this now that they come to other parts of the province they try it and they fail. Limpompo men u can go to hospital, Xhosa men don’t judge, we still call u a man coz in ur culture u are seen as one. So stop criticising our cultures for u don’t know what goes on there in those four weeks. To all the xhosa people YIMIGIDI NGOMSO MAKONWATWE ABANTWANA BAYABUYA

I find it very strange that 'boys' - amakwekwe are inputing on a manly topic...phandle makwedini (inja phandle)...if this is a Xhosa problem (yesterday in this very Sowetan there was a report of many boys that died in Limpompo - but izinja forget easily)...we will sort it out...we dont need izinja (boys) to direct us anyhow...stick to your customs...we will stick to ours...enkosi...

ow yha EC proper initiation schools have no death reates, if u r 14 and c yoself fit enough to go to the mountain and you to these fake one, of course u're gonna fie. its gt nothing to do with the tradition of circumsicion. its abt these young kids who dont wanna wait for the right time. if u go to an unregistered school, who do u blame, the student who did not enough investigation about the school or the person who started the school or the department of education

It is very painful to see and hear what our way of life has been marginalized to and to have people of no significance comment on such. To begin with as much as I'd think woman r mothers and should be concerned about their sons well being, this discussion is not one to have with em. I hear ppl going on on about Hlubis..ndiliHlubi laseSterke ke mna, n all these reports they're very discomforting because were I am from we do not have these cases of death but we end up being guilty by association i.e. jus cos I'm Xhosa..This culture if its respected enough as it should and we continue having discussions on how to improve it, all will be well...wt ppl are indeed missing out on here is the fact that is not about being circumcised, its about a hole lot more that's intended to make u appreciate self and the respect you'd even have for a younger person than yourself only cos they've managed to walk the road b4 u did..so to everyone..please keep your opinions to yourself in this regard..surely someone more influential is looking at having this resolved and we wont have to discuss such on these platforms!!!

Yes and for all of you who say "this is our culture, this is tradition." Yes well sometimes in the modern world you just let old traditions be that. Old traditions. Let it go, we can't keep performing all our old traditions. We evolve away from them.

I can see that all the Xhosas are very angry, they feel under siege, but they are not saying anything about those innocent kids who are dying almost yearly, maybe its a question of as long as is not my child its ok.They must just shut up,tribalists.
