Manyi denies sacking

Jun 8, 2012 | Sapa | 14 comments

Government spokesman Jimmy Manyi has denied a report on Friday that he received a letter indicating that his contract would not be renewed.

Jimmy Manyi

“There is no such thing, it is a complete fabrication,” Manyi said.

Harold Maloka, spokesman for Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency, Collins Chabane, echoed these sentiments.

“The minister did not have a discussion with Manyi regarding his contract and there was no such letter.”

The Mail&Guardian reported that Manyi had received a letter from Chabane to inform him that his contract would not be renewed when it expired in August.

An unnamed government official was reported as saying:

“Effectively [Manyi] has been sacked from government, in particular for repeatedly making embarrassing remarks”.

Another official claimed Manyi’s comments on the Gauteng e-tolls were “thoughtless”.

We work very close to Comrade Ohm Chabane, let us re iterate that Comrade Manyi is fired, what we are waiting for is the contract to expire so that we cannot re new it. We discovered that he was used by the anti Zuma brigades to make wrong ''loud mouthing'' so that the Government and the President can be found wanting and perceived as not knowing what they are doing. We cannot tolerate that kind of back stabbing as ANC and South African Government! We will not renew his contract, pity Comrades who were using him to sabotage us are well save in their positions as Unity and non factionalism battles in ANC does not allow us to fire them because they command very big reputation among the ANC accolades. This Baffoon listen to them on that ground when we questioned him on why he made so many blunders in execution of his duties thereby bridging his contractual terms on honesty and trustworthy. Be gone Comrade that post is too much bigger than you and you did not embrace it as such. Go back to BMF were you belong Chief we are running Government not circus!

It was a bad move in the first place to hire this bully in a position where he is going to be the face of government. He has no training in terms of handling the media and covered his weaknesses by being down right rude and arrogant. He failed dismally and high five to his predecessors, they did a sterling job.

He needs some assistance in mastering the art of communicating.

@KeRataBasadi but Jack Daniel Mthembu is exactly gifted iro public speaking, I guess Mannyi allowed his arrogance of thinking he has arrived to stand on some sensitive anc toes, but if contract is not renewed it wld be the only decent thing anc regime did under zuma.
