Summit to be held following The Spear saga

A NATIONAL summit to enhance social cohesion, referred to by President Jacob Zuma in Parliament, will be held in Soweto, the Department of Arts and Culture said

Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile said political parties, representatives of civil society, business leaders and government representatives had been invited to attend the summit.

The summit will be held under the theme "Creating a caring and proud society".

Zuma announced the need for the social cohesion summit last month following the storm of controversy caused by Brett Murray's painting The Spear, which depicted Zuma with his genitals exposed.

If the summit will eventually link to the socio-economic development of our country then it is OK. It is time that the entire citizenry focuses on a collective vision versus of few individuals (be they b!ack or wh1te; DA or ANC), for the sustainability of our country as a whole.

these man cannot play with time like this. there are very important issues which are competing for his attention. issues like developing the underdeveloped areas which are still running short of electricity and water. people are drinking water with domestic animals and he knows it, nonetheless he continues to pursue egocentric goals. hai this man!!

I partly agree with you but social coersion is equally important for the country with such an ugly past this will help us divine the future. Physical development must go hand in hand with unified society.

It not like on the day of the summit whoever is fixing water pipe, building roads, schools, police and hospital services will stop giving service on the day of this summit. Budget allocations will remain the same. Its simple part of development. At the moment past keeps on calling us because of ignored and unresolved issues.

Agreed the social issues needed to be adressed for a long time..... Stalin had his soviet propoganda posters.... which is what the artist used......the artist also drew attention to a fixation, on the part of one person.... when in fact all other issues are not being adressed........ Artist produce art to evoke a response, one may argue this artist has done his job well.... the bl@ck artist Ayanda Mabula drew attention to the same issues even earlier with a painting of this person with a broken d1ckbut wsa ignored because he is bl@ck....Ayanda should have enjoyed this fame....long before....

Mgaraji: Hmmm. I do in fact take in several news sources on a daily basis and am still not sure that everyone is happy about this futile ego-stroke.
_______________________________________________________________________________
I did not say everyone is happy. I do not have any measure in place to check if everyone is happy or not happy with something. I mentioned political parties, NGO's and media who are not representatives of everyone. I should have said political parties, NGO's and media house interviewed welcomed this. There is no thing that will ever be liked/disliked by everyone.

It has nothing to do with Zuma and Spear but it your obsession with Zuma that is clouding your judgement. Cool down.
