A NATIONAL summit to enhance social cohesion, referred to by President Jacob Zuma in Parliament, will be held in Soweto, the Department of Arts and Culture said

REACHING OUT: Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile

Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile said political parties, representatives of civil society, business leaders and government representatives had been invited to attend the summit.

The summit will be held under the theme "Creating a caring and proud society".

Zuma announced the need for the social cohesion summit last month following the storm of controversy caused by Brett Murray's painting The Spear, which depicted Zuma with his genitals exposed.

The fact that nothing was said about a painting by a bl@ck painter Ayanda Mabula painting the same genetals and those of bishop Tutu makes the whole action r@cist by nature because its only focussing on one painter because of skin colour.... shame if that is not targeting then what is

We need a national discource on racism and the promulgation of a statute which criminalises racism, just like apartheid was declared a crime against humanity. Eventualy we must establish courts which will deal only with allegations of racism......The theme of the summit -" creating a caring and proud society"- does not speak to the issue of race relations. The theme must be clear, bold and unumbigous. We do not have to shy awy from the fact that racism still exist ad caot be sugar-coated in any way.

The right to sing songs advocating the killing of certain targeted sectors of the population will be defended in court.

However a painting might cause us to vomit, have nervous breakdown in court, and riot thru the streets.

Kinda warped criminal logic.

Taxpayer money is going to be used to advance Zuma's cause - this is just a political event to present Zuma as a victim and get some sympathy votes for him. The guy did everything to show what a ...hole he is and now he is milking the spear painting saga to redeem himself.
