Move to make HIV drugs cheaper

THE National Association of People Living with Aids and HIV in Limpopo has welcomed a move by two international pharmaceutical companies to make ARVs affordable.

Hundreds of infected people could be saved by the availability of "cheaper but still effective anti-Aids drugs", Napwa Limpopo secretary Lawrence Sengwane said.

SANOFI has joined hands with Hetero of India to manufacture ARV drugs at a site to be opened in Mamelodi.

Limpopo health department spokesman Joe Maila said he was not sure whether the factory in Mamelodi would benefit Limpopo.
