Girl (5) identifies her rapist

33-year-old brought to court to stand trial

A man accused of raping a five-year-old girl appeared in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.

The 33-year-old man was not asked to plead and the matter was postponed until April 3, Captain Jackson Manatha said. He remained in custody.

The man allegedly raped the girl in Ibika informal settlement near Butterworth on Monday.

Residents arrested him after the girl told her mother what had happened.

“The man was positively identified by the girl shortly after his arrest,” said Manatha.
