Motorist beaten by taxi driver

A man was injured over the weekend when he was beaten by a minibus taxi driver in an apparent road rage incident, according to a report on Monday.

Alan Molaudi was driving on Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park when a taxi cut in front of him forcing him to stop, The Star newspaper reported.

Molaudi said he tried to speak to the driver but he swore at him.

At the next set of traffic lights the taxi driver stopped behind him and got out of his vehicle with a knobkerrie.

Molaudi also got out of his car and was hit on the arm by the other driver. Passengers of the taxi tried to stop the assault.

The taxi driver took Molaudi’s car keys out of the ignition stopping him from driving off.

He was then hit in the ribs and finger, fracturing them.

“If he had a gun he would have shot me. I am angry. I don’t know if I will be okay. I can’t breathe for long because my chest is sore and my nose is blocked. I can’t walk properly. All I need is justice.”

Molaudi was able to take note of the licence plate and police confirmed a case had been opened.
