FF+ candidate linked to murder plot

A Freedom Front Plus candidate in last year’s local government elections has allegedly been implicated in a plot to kill her husband

Nell-Mari Cooke, 30, allegedly plotted with her gardener and a suspected gang member to murder her 31-year-old husband Martin, with whom she is in divorce proceedings.

She appeared in the Worcester Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday last week, City Press reported.

Her husband apparently learned of the plot last week when he found a handwritten letter from an unknown person in his wife’s letterbox, the newspaper reported.

The letter writer was asking for money, apparently promised by Cooke for the murder of her husband.

In court, she denied the plot. Her co-accused have turned State’s witnesses and will testify against her.

During her bail application, investigating officer Warrant Officer Deon Daamies said Cooke’s cellphone records would show that  she was in regular contact with the men.

She was released on R5,000 bail.
