Miss Soweto gives her love to kids

MISS Soweto celebrated her Valentine's Day at Othandweni Children's Home in Soweto, spending time with the people she says she appreciates.

Lebogang Monggae paid a visit to the children's home yesterday to show some love to the children who are largely forgotten on a day usually spent with significant others.

"People think that Valentine's Day is for couples only, but it's also a time to spend with people you appreciate," Lebogang said.

The children's home houses about 90 children who are either orphaned, disadvantaged, victims of abuse or have been abandoned.

The leggy beauty from Dobsonville spent time playing with the children after bringing donations of food and nappies with her.

"My reign so far has been a wonderful learning experience ... it has been a fabulous opportunity to learn more about the community where I was born, still live in and love so much," she said of her reign since being crowned in December.

Lebogang said her reign has opened her eyes about Soweto in a way she has never expected.

"My plan, besides doing a few visits to children's homes, is to focus on safety, specifically child safety. We read a lot of stories about children drowning or being run over (by cars), so we need to enhance our knowledge on safety," she said.

The beauty queen is also completing her honours in economics at the University of Johannesburg and wrote a test yesterday after her visit.

With her commitments to Miss Soweto as well as her studies, Lebogang insists there is no time for a love life ... at least not now.
