Cellphones banned at school
CELLPHONES have been banned at Gelvandale High School in Port Elizabeth, and if concerned community members have their way, other schools in the city may soon follow suit.
This follows the distribution of two cellphone porn videos featuring four teenagers - one of them, a girl, wearing what appears to be a uniform belonging to St Thomas High School (another local high school) - which sent shockwaves through the community.
The decision by teachers and irate members of the city's Gelvandale Police Community Forum comes just days after one of the boys said to be featured in the video was arrested on Friday.
However, attempts yesterday to verify what the 19-year-old was charged with were unsuccessful.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Alwin Labans confirmed the arrest but said the suspect had not appeared in an open court.
"The guy did go to court, however senior prosecutors decided to first have a meeting with both parents of the children embroiled in the sex video. Thereafter a decision will be taken on whether to press charges or not," Labans said.

Cell phones should be banned basically in all schools. Not because of porn factor, because focus of a learner with cell phone is shared automatically. We should stop to think like Zuma. Not all decisions should emerge after sex. Even iPods should be banned. Those items are good for festive season to learners. We should go back to our roots and the only way is not to waste our votes at ManagungReport Abuse

Very Interesting.Parents with kids going to GVNMT schools takes away their cellphones
while kids going to Private schools are using IPad's in classes.
Why the the phone only during school hours then when they get home they have to catch-up with the happenings using the same phone that is "TAKEN" from them.
Very Interesting.
