69 babies born in Gauteng on Christmas Day

Special birthday for new arrivals

More than 60 babies were born in Gauteng’s public hospitals on Tuesday, Christmas day, said the provincial department of health.

Sixty-nine babies were born in seven hospitals in the province, the department said in a statement.

The highest number of babies born was Chris Hani Hospital with 19 — 14 boys and five girls.

This was followed by Rahima Moosa Hospital with 14 babies, six boys and eight girls, George Mukhari with nine, four boys and five girls and Charlotte Maxeke with nine, six boys and three girls.

Yusuf Dadoo Hospital and Bertha Gxowa each had seven babies each, five boys and two girls in the former and three boys and four girls in the latter.

Four babies were born at Kalafong hospital, three boys and one girl. MEC for Health Qedani Mahlangu was present at the hospital to give the newborns gifts.

“During this time of giving, we would like to share with the mothers in their joy as they bring new lives in this world especially on such a blessed day like Christmas,” Mahlangu said in the statement.
