A metro police officer died in the Tshepo-Themba Private Hospital in Dobsonville on Wednesday morning after he was shot during a hijacking in Jabulani, metro police said.

“The officer was shot four times and was robbed of his private car and his service firearm was also taken,” spokesman Chief Supt Wayne Minnaar said.

Minnaar said the 24-year-old officer was off-duty and alone when the incident occurred on Tuesday night.

“More details will be released later,” he added.
