IN A four-hour-long service marked by praise and worship in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, yesterday, six high-profile South Africans were honoured for their achievements and service to the country.

The service was hosted by the Christ Centred Church.

Supreme Court of Appeal judge and Arms Deal Commission chairman Judge Willie Seriti, South African Football Association vice-president Danny Jordaan, Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund, actor and director Sello Maake ka Ncube, spiritual leader and visionary Pastor Faith Ngwale and Irvin Bafana Sibisi, the managing director of DGSD Consulting Engineers, were honoured with the Tshwane Outstanding Service Award.

"We are celebrating our brothers and sisters for the excellent work they do," church leader Bishop AT Sibiya said.

Seriti, who grew up in Atteridgeville and whose parents still live there, expressed his happiness about the "unique" award.

Igesund said he was humbled and that it was "a wonderful feeling and privilege".

Maake ka Ncube said receiving the award was like returning to the bosom of his mother because he grew up in the township.
