Two men were handed life sentences in the Mtubatuba High Court for killing an off-duty SA National Defence Force member, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

Fanozi Gumede, 25, and Lindokuhle Thabede, 19, were convicted and sentenced to life for murder, and 15 years each for robbery on Wednesday, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

The body of Joseph Themba Mazibuko, 45, from Nelspruit, was found at the Dwaleni High School sports ground in Pongola last year. He had sustained head and body injuries. Later, it was established he had been stoned to death and robbed of his belongings and clothing.

The two killers were arrested and found in possession of Mazibuko’s two cellphones, wallet, tracksuit and sandals.
