Striking BRT bus drivers suffered disparities in wages and employer contributions, the Young Communist League of SA said.

"The YCL in Gauteng is deeply saddened by the wage disparities in the Rea Vaya Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT)," the organisation said in a statement.

The YCL said it supported the strike.

"We also support the work undertaken by the South African Municipal Workers Union in trying to deal with these disparities at the City of Johannesburg."

Commuters were left stranded in Johannesburg on Monday when the city's bus rapid transit system drivers went on strike.

The drivers are demanding a salary increase and better employment conditions.
