Cops rescue hijacked dog

Pet-loving owners are over-joyed

Two members of the Benoni flying squad rescued Jesse, a hijacked sausage dog, and one of them took care of her until she could be reunited with her owners.

Warrant Officer Morne Jonker and his colleague, Constable Tefo Khahlise on Wednesday night followed the Tracker signal of a car stolen in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion.

According to police spokeswoman Captain Pinky Tsinyane, they found the Volkswagen Polo in Tembisa, with a shivering Jesse staring out of the back window.

Jonker notified the owners of the car, and offered to take care of their dog until the next morning.

The owner, Andrew Beet, 48, had gone to empty his postbox in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, on Wednesday night when he was held at gunpoint by “a very friendly man who said he was going to take my car now”.

Beet’s other dog, Wally, also a dachshund, was kicked out of the car before the criminal drove off, but Jesse was thought to have hidden under the seat.

Beet and his partner Eleanor Momberg were overjoyed to be reunited with Jesse on Thursday, and said they could not thank the police enough.
