Metro officer and cop in arrest row

A JOHANNESBURG Metropolitan Police Department officer said last night she felt let down by the law after police failed to arrest a South African Police Service member who had allegedly abused her.

Sergeant Stella Maleka of the JMPD said she saw the man talking on his phone while driving next to him in Midrand yesterday afternoon. She later learnt he was an off-duty warrant officer based at OR Tambo International Airport.

"I signalled to him that I was going to issue him a ticket. He stopped and got out of the car. He told me he had never been stopped by a k****r officer. He grabbed me by the uniform, took out a firearm and pointed it at my head," Maleka said.

She said the man sped off and she gave chase, calling for back-up.

He stopped at the Grayston off-ramp in Sandton , where there were police.

"The police on the scene refused to arrest him, saying we must talk about the matter because he might lose his job if I opened a case."

Maleka said she finally managed to open a case at Bramley police station.

Captain Pinky Tsinyane confirmed last night that Maleka had laid a complaint of pointing a firearm against the man and he laid one of attempted hijacking against her.
