Village haunted by missing boy

An intensive search by the police, community members and traditional healers aimed at finding a missing 6-year-old boy has so far failed to yield any results.

Since last Wednesday, attempts to find little Thapelo Sithole of Spitspunt in Limpopo's Moutse area - who was last seen playing outside his home's yard at about 4pm - were unsuccessful.

The incident has terrified villagers as memories of missing kids in the past have come to haunt them.

In 2006 the bodies of three people who went missing in the village were found in the nearby bush with their private parts missing.

But the boy's family is optimistic that he is still alive and believes it's just a matter of time before he returns home.

The villagers have been assisting the family to search for him.

"What happened to this family can happen to any of us here," said Nnono Kekana.

On Saturday, sniffer dogs were dispatched to the village but failed to find the boy. A team of Marble Hall police detectives, led by station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Kate Maswanganyi, also joined the search.

At about 11pm, the family approached a local traditional healer, but this did not help as the spot she identified yielded nothing.
