THE second season of MTV Base's search for VJs (video jockeys) held in Johannesburg at the weekend left some wannabe VJs out of the running.

The audition attracted hundreds of young people but some of them did not meet the criteria set out for qualification.

One of the rules states that established show hosts are ineligible, but among those who auditioned were presenters, including hosts of QBase28 on SABC2, Raphael Griffiths, Tshiamo Thebe and Tshegofatso Malepe, as well as Eric Macheru from Skeem Sam', a youth drama on SABC1.

Most of those trying out their luck stumbled when reading the audition script.

Griffiths told Sowetan that he did not know about the criteria, which he discovered only after he had been auditioned for the initial phase.

When it became known that he was a presenter, Griffiths was booted out.

He said if he had read the rules, he would never have wasted his time.
