Twenty blocks of cocaine with an estimated street value of R24 million have been seized at Cape Town harbour, Western Cape police said
Captain Frederick van Wyk said a crime intelligence unit raided the harbour on Monday afternoon after receiving information that the drugs were being smuggled in a ship container.
“The container, that was destined for a cold storage company in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, was intercepted and searched,” he said.
“The members found loads of frozen products destined to be produced into animal food, as well as a black sports bag containing 20 blocks of pure cocaine.”
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs originated in South America.
No arrests had been made.
