AN ELECTRICAL engineering student who lost the use of his right arm following a car accident in 2007 has been awarded more than R4-million by the Road Accident Fund.
As a result of the crash, Siyanda Majola had to abandon his studies.
Majola, 25, was seriously injured in a collision between Port Alfred and East London on July 8 2007.
He was a passenger.
He sustained permanent injuries to the right arm and as a result, his dreams of working in the engineering field were shattered.
The matter was brought before the Grahamstown High Court in November 2011, and the RAF conceded the merits of the claim.
An actuarial report stated that Majola's total loss of income would be around R5-million.
Judge Phakamisa Tshiki awarded Majola R300,000 for general damages.
Nearly R4-million was awarded for loss of income, and the RAF was ordered to pay the plaintiff's future medical expenses.
