Murder plot backfires

A PLAN by a man to kill his ex-wife backfired when a hired hitman went behind his back to inform her about the plot.

Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said a 56-year-old man from Nyoni, in KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, was caught handing over money to a hitman he had allegedly hired to kill his ex-wife.

"He was promptly arrested and charged with conspiracy to murder," Naicker said.

"The suspect hired two men to carry out the hit and he gave them a down-payment of R4,900. A balance of R8,000 was to be paid at a later stage."

The motive for the suspect to want his ex-wife killed was still unknown.
