THREE people, including a husband, who are accused of murdering a 50-year-old woman, have pleaded with the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court not to grant them bail.
Their legal representative, Nzame Skibi, who was reprimanded by the magistrate, Thabo Lephadi, for arriving late in court yesterday, said the three accused had their reasons for wanting to remain in custody.
The three, and a fourth woman, are accused of kidnapping and murdering Ivy Molefe, whose body was found on Birmansdrift farm in North West two weeks ago.
According to the police in the province, the body was also mutilated.
Molefe, who worked as a cleaner for the North West finance department, went missing on March 14 and was last seen alive leaving work for home.
Skibi is representing Molefe's husband Klaas Molefe, 55, Penny Tatushe and Thabo Thamaga, 24.
The other accused, Elizabeth Mosweu, changed her legalrepresentative.
Magistrate Lephadi told her to tell her lawyer to be present at the next hearing. He postponed the case to August 23 for further investigation. The accused are in custody.
Ivy Molefe's relatives were happy that the accused had abandoned their bail application. Her uncle, Ben Mogapi, said her death had brought pain and confusion to the family.
He said the family knew that the couple were having marital problems.
"They have been having problems for a very long time and the family elders, including myself, tried to intervene, but we failed," he said.
Mogapi said they had met the the couple three times this year to try and solve their problems. He said they told the couple to consult a marriage counsellor because the family meetings were getting them nowhere.
The Molefe's two children, who are aged 20 and 15 years, are receiving counselling at a local private hospital.
Ivy Molefe was buried last Saturday at Huhudi in Vryburg.
Her husband reported her missing the day after she did not return home from work.
It is alleged that Ivy Molefe received a telephone call from unknown people while she was at work.
She never returned home to her family and her badly decomposed body was found two weeks after she went missing.
'Please keep us in jail'
