A man has been seriously injured in a panga attack in Mandela Park, Cape Town, Western Cape police said.

Warrant Officer November Filander said the man, 23, was sitting in his car outside a tavern in Hout Bay when another man started swearing at him on Wednesday night.

He got out of the car and confronted the other man, who left, but returned a bit later and attacked him with a panga, seriously injuring his head and arm.

Filander said the man with the panga ran away and had not yet been arrested. An attempted murder docket had been opened.
