Charities to get 10 new helpers

THE Vodacom Change The World programme is nearing its final stage in which 10 candidates will be chosen next Thursday.

The candidates chosen last year are ending their 12-month contract.

Sithabile Mazibuko, Linda Louw, Santie Kotze, Fiona Budd, Hendrien de Klerk, Yvonne Klagsburn, Julie Hay, Funeka Mani and Keith Wimble were the nine candidates - one resigned - chosen last year to support various nonprofit organisations (NPOs) with their needs.

The organisations that benefited from the programme were the East London Child and Youth Care Centre, Business Against Crime, Opkyk Pathways Therapy and Education Centre, Sandton SPCA, Free State Care in Action, Waterberg Welfare Society, 1000 Hills Community Helpers, Lowveld Alcohol and Drug Abuse Centre and Ikamva Labantu.

According to Vodacom some of the more significant contributions made include raising more than R2-million, educating 1452 delegates the Western Cape on healthcare and training 700 volunteers to assist in the Free State.

Vodacom partnered with Avusa Media to help charities in areas where they needed expertise. The Change The World Programme identifies 10 NPOs in the country with specific needs and selects 10 candidates with the skills to fulfil those needs.

Natasha Kleyn, PR manager of Vodacom, stressed the need for volunteers who could work with NPOs over 12 months and transfer their skills.
