Man arrested after two couples are shot

Couples attacked for no apparent reason, police investigating

A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Reiger Park on the East Rand, Gauteng police said on Friday.

The 27-year-old man was arrested in Cosmo Street shortly after Thursday night’s incident, said Lt-Col Katleho Mogale.

His cellphone and vehicle were seized by police.

Johnny Jacobs, 47, and his girlfriend were sitting in a car when they were approached by a white BMW with four occupants.

“One of the occupants fired shots at the couple’s vehicle, killing the man and injuring his girlfriend,” said Mogale.

This is the second shooting on the East Rand following a similar attack on a couple in Edenvale on Wednesday.

Gavin Adams, 39, and his wife, Leila were shot by three balaclava-clad men who drove a silver Renault with tinted windows.

The man was shot dead and his wife was rushed to a nearby hospital in a serious condition, Mogale said.

She declined to speculate if the two murders were gang related.

“We are still investigating and it is not clear if the murders are related to each other or gang related.”
