Immigrants arrested in Cape

Twenty-four illegal immigrants were arrested and 26 vehicles impounded in Nyanga, the City of Cape Town said on Friday.

On Wednesday, an operation was conducted in Emms Drive after authorities received complaints about unlawful activity in the area, safety and security director Richard Bosman said in a statement.

“Officers cordoned off and searched the area, resulting in the arrest of 24 illegal immigrants,” he said.

Twenty-six vehicles were impounded for being unroadworthy or unlicensed.

Fines for various offences were issued totalling R194,400.

City law enforcement, metro police, traffic police, and the SA Police Service took part in the operation.

Bosman said a follow-up operation was planned to prevent a recurrence of criminal activities in the area.
