Double pay row

AN ANC councillor in Limpopo continues to draw two salaries despite being ordered to resign from his other job in a provincial hospital.

Simon Mayikane, a proportional representation councillor in Thulamela has not resigned his job at Malamulele Hospital. This is in contravention of an ANC directive that councillors should resign their previous positions once they are elected.

Yesterday, the chief executive of Malamulele Hospital Valery Risenga confirmed that Mayikane was still employed by the hospital.

"I did not know that he was a councillor," said Risenga.

When Sowetan contacted ANC Vhembe regional secretary, Khathu Netshifhefhe, he confirmed that Mayikane was "cheating".

"We heard that he still keeps his other job at the hospital. He had earlier told us that he had resigned his position and we took his word thinking he was a disciplined comrade," Netshifhefhe said.

"What Mayikane has done amounts to misconduct and cheating and the ANC will take action against him on Friday."
