Cop arrested over stolen truck

Lieutenant-Colonel allegedly arranged for a stolen truck that was recovered by police, to get handed over to person who is not the owner

A policeman has been arrested for handing over a truck which was stolen, then recovered, to a person who was not the owner, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

The Hawks arrested the 53-year-old lieutenant colonel, who was attached to Seshego vehicle identification and safeguarding unit, late on Tuesday evening, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.

It was believed that he made sure that someone other than the lawful owner would claim the truck from the police vehicle pound.

The truck was one of two stolen from Embalenhle Municipality.

The irregularity was discovered when the municipality made enquiries about the missing truck.

Muaudzi said the policeman would appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of fraud, theft and corruption.
