Truck had been transporting plasma television sets
Seven police officers and four civilians have been arrested for stealing 20 plasma television sets at an accident scene, Free State police said on Wednesday.
The truck driver lost control of the truck and it overturned between Smithfield and Rouxville in December, said Sergeant Fikiswa Matoti.
“He sustained some injuries and he was taken to hospital, leaving behind the truck with the load.”
Matoti said the owner of the truck found stock missing when he arrived at the scene to have the truck towed and he reported this to the police.
The scene was attended by police and emergency services workers.
The arrests were made on Tuesday, and 20 plasma television sets were recovered.
Matoti said the 11 would appear in the Rouxville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
