Teacher stabs girl (3)

Girl's mother is believed to have been his lover

A 30-year-old teacher has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a  three-year-old girl to death in Koffiekraal outside Rustenburg, North West police said on Saturday.

Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said the teacher stabbed the three-year-old after he had an argument with the girl’s mother, reportedly his lover, on Thursday.

“He had an argument earlier on the day with his lover and later went to the lover’s home to look for her but she refused to talk to the suspect and locked herself in the house.”

He said the teacher then took the child who was playing outside with her friend to his home.

The child’s aunt noticed she was missing and established that he  took her.

The aunt went to his home where she found the door locked and knocked on the window, when she heard the teacher talking to the three-year old.

“The child then screamed and the suspect came out holding a knife with which he stabbed himself [in] the neck,” he said.

Ngubane said the child died on the scene of stab wounds and the teacher was taken to hospital.

He was arrested on Friday after he was discharged from hospital.

He is expected to appear at the Madikwe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
