COSMO City 2 Secondary School - which was established by the community - is proof that the success of a school relies on the commitment of teachers, parents and pupils.
This is the second year that pupils at the school sat for matric examinations. In 2010, they got 50.7% and this year they achieved 80.7%.
The star of the school, Genious Khumalo, obtained distinctions in mathematics, physical Science and life orientation.
Siphiwe Buthelezi, a lawyer who works closely with the school, pledged to pay Khumalo's registration fees.
Khumalo says he wants to study for a degree in mechanical engineering.
"I did not expect to pass the way I did," he says.
- Neighbouring Cosmo City Secondary School achieved a 57.9% pass rate. An increase from 2010's 49.3%.
