5 new councillors move across to NFP

THE National Freedom Party has made a positive start to the new year after five councillors - three from the IFP - joined the party.

Yesterday, IFP ward 12 councillor in Nongama, Khulekani Dladla, defected to the NFP with councillor Ntokozo Qwabe of Nongoma municipality, councillor Sibongiseni Ndlovu of Imbabazane municipality, an independent councillor from Mhlathuze municipality, and ANCYL secretary at iMbabazane subregion Thabani Radebe.

Dladla claimed the IFP was not democratic and lacked discipline.

"When there were problems that resulted in the formation of the NFP I felt it was not correct to be part of those structures because I loved the IFP," Dladla said.

He claimed IFP leaders deserted him when he was admitted to hospital after a car accident.

"Instead the IFP leaders wanted me to take my name off the nomination list to open a space for someone else.

"I felt that was beyond my control and sent them to the people who had nominated me.

"But the community rejected this," he said.

Dladla had served in the position for five years.

Radebe said his decision to leave the ANC for the NFP was an easy one.

"There was no transparency in the ANCYL in that region.

"And every time when you try to use your skills to uplift the youth there are those who form a ring of steel to ensure you never succeeded," he said.
