SABC duo nabbed over prostitutes

THE SABC is mum on the news of two of its senior officials who were allegedly arrested in London for refusing to pay prostitutes after a hot sex session.

The two men, who were in London for a business school initiative between British and South African academic institutions, were allegedly arrested after refusing to pay the prostitutes the full sum.

A source said the officials, who are known to Sowetan, were given an allowance of about R400,000 - which they used to splash in clubs and restaurants.

The source said all hell broke loose after the officials refused to give the ladies of the night the full amount they previously agreed on.

The women called the police, who arrested them immediately.

"They called an SABC board member to intervene. He managed to secure their release and they were both deported to South Africa," the source said.

He said the issue was being investigated by the board to find out who approved the trip and how they ended up with such a huge allowance in the first place.

Though SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago denied that the trip had anything to do with the SABC, he said he knew about the issue, adding that it was not his place to comment on private issues.

"The SABC employees were on a private business trip that had nothing to do with the broadcaster. I don't know the details," Kganyago said.

British high commission spokeswoman Isabel Potgieter told Sowetan they were still trying to establish the facts about the arrest from the UK police.

"We cannot give you any information until we establish what really happened," Potgieter said.

Bloggers are having a field day over the scandal. One blog, teeveetee.blogspot.com, has a funny version of events.
