Mpisane 'to fly into' July event

SHAUWN Mpisane, wife of Sbu the Durban metro police officer turned millionaire, is expected "to fly into" this year's Durban July after revealing that she will be landing in a helicopter with her friend, Generations actress Winnie Ntshaba.

The businesswoman, who recently appeared in the Durban magistrate's court on fraud charges, wants to make a grand entrance.

Known for her lavish parties and expensive taste, Mpisane will be dressed by Durban designer Francois Vedemme.

Ntshaba's guilty secret for the event is a custom-made pair of shoes to match an imported dress.

This year's theme inspired by the two royal weddings of 2011.

The English royal wedding between Prince William and Catherine Middleton and the wedding between South Africa's own 33-year-old swimmer Charlene Lynette Wittstock and Prince Albert of Monaco.

  • President Jacob Zuma will not attend this year's Durban July.

Presidency spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said Zuma would be in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for the 17th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly.

Last year Zuma won R16,000 after betting on the winning horse, Bold Silvano.

However, police allege that his day was ruined when he was assaulted by Daryl Peense, who spilled his drink on him.

Though Zuma has not laid a criminal charge against Peense, the Johannesburg businessman has stood trial for assault.

Judgment is expected in the Durban magistrate's court next Wednesday.
