THE ANC has received a report about the recently concluded Limpopo provincial conference but will only attend to it after the January 8 statement.

This was said by ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe yesterday.

Mantashe would not shed light on whether the report pertained to complaints raised by the faction that lost the contest at the University of Limpopo's Turfloop campus on December 17.

"Yes, I can confirm that I have received a report about the ANC conference in Limpopo, but will only deal with the report after the January 8 statement in Mangaung," Mantashe said.

Sowetan understands that supporters of Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture Joe Phaahla, who lost the chairmanship to incumbent Cassel Mathale, have forwarded their own report about events that unfolded at the conference.

Among other things was the alleged assault of a journalist by ANC Youth League official Clifford Mohloana. The journalist was attacked while taking pictures of an alleged fraudulent activity.

Subsequent to the assault, journalist Chester Makana opened a case with the Polokwane police. Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed that Mohloana's case had been postponed to January 11 pending his application for legal aid assistance.

Other allegations were that non-voting delegates were allowed to vote for Mathale. while those supporting Phaahla were told they had already voted while they had not, thereby denying them an opportunity to vote.

A source close to Luthuli House confirmed yesterday that they had received two reports, one from Mathole Motshekga, who headed the delegation that oversaw the Limpopo conference, and another from Phaahla's supporters, raising concerns about events at the conference.

A source, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Sowetan: "And I can confirm that both reports raised similar issues around the events that happened at the conference.

"We only need to wait until after the January 8 statement so we can be told of what steps the mother body will take regarding the Limpopo conference."
